So I love decorating our home! I do! I love getting festive for a season or holiday and changing things up around the house every once in a while. I am also passionate about creating a smaller footprint. I am not a minimalist by any means, but it is definitely a goal that I am always working towards. The two ideas can be hard to mesh, but I have found some ways to have it all. So today I wanted to bring those ideas to you so that decorating your home for Valentine’s Day won’t seem like one more holiday that you will have to store away.
Cutting out the clutter simplifies my life in so many ways. It affords me to spend less time cleaning all the stuff and more time to love on my family. But it doesn’t mean that I have to cut out the fun and creativity of decorating for different occasions. Valentine’s Day is secretly one of my favorites to doll up the house in little ways. For one it is my birthday (yes, it’s the 14th) and gifts are always welcome. LOL! And second, it’s the only time of year that I get to use pink without an eye roll from my husband. But it’s not like Christmas (bins in the attic and stays up for over a month with daily activities). So for occasions like Valentine’s Day I keep it simple by utilizing our decor staples.
Pillowcases
So there is definitely a healthy limit to the amount of throw pillows that one should be allowed to own. But I love them because they can help change up your look so easily. The problem is that I don’t want to have to store the ones that aren’t in use! So the key here is to purchase pillow inserts to the size that you need and then buy pillow cases separately. They are much easier to store away and clean! Just changing a little lumbar pillow can add that Valentine love to your living room or bed.
Paper Crafts
Adding a craft project to the mix is a great way to get the family involved and then you can recycle it when the season or holiday is over! A paper garland or cut out shapes are always an easy craft that don’t require lots of materials or investment.
Fresh Flowers and plants
They literally freshen your space. So easy to change out and you can bring different colors into your decor without stocking up on bulky decorations from Home Goods. You also don’t have to break the bank with flowers either. Just a simple little bouquet of baby’s breath or pink carnations is so lovely.
Changing out frames
Changing out your frames and artwork are another way to just repurpose what you already have set out in your decor. I will change out our family photos depending on the season and the same goes for any sort of gallery wall that I want to add a little seasonal flare to. A shadow box is always a versatile item to have in your space. I will fill it with all sorts of ideas depending on the time of year(this year it’s origami hearts) . And never underestimate a cute letter board for changing out quotes that inspire you or make you laugh.
I wanted to go ahead and include a couple of free printable so that you could decorate along with me this year. Just click on your favorite image below to download or print.
